Greater Manchester Junior League U15's - 2/10/05

The 2005/06 Greater Manchester Junior Hockey League commenced on Sunday 2nd October with the Under 15's at Belle Vue, Manchester.  The Stockport teams were made up of players from Heaton Moor Juniors, Reddish Green Ladies, Heaton Ladies and Werneth Juniors. 

Under 15 Girls got off to an exciting start against Bowden.  It was the first time the girls had played together so there was a little bit of settling in getting to know each other.  Unfortunately Bowden were able to take advantage of this and scored 2 goals.  The Stockport girls didn't let their heads go down and Charlie Sims clawed back a goal.  In the final minutes Stockport were awarded a short corner and after a bit of a scramble in the circle Amber Bryden managed to take control of the ball and score - final score 2-2.

The next game was against Bury's 2nd team, which Stockport took control of from the start and were unlucky not to score in the first few minutes through some determined dribbling from Alex Peace.  There was some great play from Charlie Sims in midfield using both Amber Bryden and Jenny Plant on her wings to produce some impressive attacking play.  Jenny Plant was unlucky not to scoop a couple of goals from her positioning on the post and it took an accurate strike from Amber Bryden to break the deadlock.  Susan Elcock and Hannah Berry worked hard in defence to keep a clean sheet and produced some excellent block tackles and channelling keeping Bury at bay.

The last game was against Bury's 1st team who came out ready to produce a result.  But the Stockport girls rose to the challenge and did not allow Bury to get into their flow.  Again, some excellent defending with Lucy Rowbottom channelling Bury wide and some fantastic saves by goalkeeper, Natasha Getcheffsky.  Stockport were awarded a short corner which after a few shots at goal was converted by Charlie Sims only to be disallowed by the umpire as the ball had not been taken fully out of the circle.  The game ended 0-0.
